CMMC Level 2 Certification

From Technical Expertise to Cybersecurity Excellence: GLTaC's CMMC Journey

GLTaC's Strategic Cybersecurity Initiative

GLTaC is actively pursuing Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2, a critical step in our ongoing commitment to data security and our continued support of the defense and government sectors. As a leading provider of technical translation services, we recognize that protecting sensitive information has become paramount in an increasingly complex global landscape.

The Evolving Landscape of National Cybersecurity

The fundamental responsibility of our government transcends traditional defense, extending into the intricate digital domain where modern threats emerge. Cyberattacks have become the new frontier of national security, with adversaries seeking to infiltrate critical systems, compromise sensitive data, and disrupt vital infrastructure with unprecedented sophistication.

In response to these escalating challenges, the Department of Defense (DoD) has developed the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program, a strategic framework designed to protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). The most recent iteration, CMMC 2.0, finalized in late 2024, represents a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity governance.

Regulatory Framework and Compliance

The CMMC certification is underpinned by critical regulatory mechanisms:

  • Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.204-21
  • Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) 242.204-7012
  • 32 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) § 170, effective December 16, 2024

While traditional security classifications like CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, and TOP SECRET are well-understood, Controlled Unclassified Information represents a nuanced category of protection. Unlike standard unclassified information readily available online, CUI encompasses sensitive intellectual property and strategic data that represents a high-value target for global adversaries.

Rigorous Certification Requirements

CMMC Level 2 certification demands comprehensive compliance with:

  • 110 specific requirements
  • 320 underlying assessment objectives
  • Adherence to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-171r2

GLTaC's Strategic Approach

We have completed our initial gap analysis, a critical first step in our certification journey. This comprehensive assessment identifies opportunities for enhancing:

  • IT security protocols
  • Documentation practices
  • Employee training programs

While we already meet numerous existing criteria, we recognize the importance of continual improvement. Our strategic goal is to achieve CMMC Level 2 certification by the end of 2025—a milestone that places us among an elite group of language service providers.

Industry Context and Strategic Positioning

The certification landscape reveals critical insights:

  • 36% of the Defense Industrial Base requires CMMC Level 2 certification
  • Less than 1% will need CMMC Level 3 certification
  • 100% of DIB must meet CMMC Level 1 standards

By pursuing this certification, GLTaC aims to become the premier translation services provider where data security is paramount. This initiative not only demonstrates our commitment to defense sector requirements but also provides additional assurance to our civilian clients about our rigorous data protection standards.

We invite our partners and clients to follow our progress as we navigate this detailed and comprehensive certification process. Periodic updates will be shared to highlight our commitment to excellence in secure technical communication.
